PDG Film Services have teamed up with high speed filming experts Greendoor Films to deliver 4K slow motion aerial filming using our Shotover F1 camera system.

We worked with rally legend Chris Birkbeck at his Rally School in Brotton. The action was supplied by Chris in his historic 1980 Opel Ascona rally car and International rally winner and Mitsubishi Motors factory driver Ryan Champion driving his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX and his 1994 Subaru 555 WRC Impreza.

Greendoor Films’ Phantom Flex 4k camera was fitted with the versatile Canon CN7 x17 Cine zoom lens. This package was then swiftly installed in our Shotover F1 gyro-stabilised camera system and the Phantom camera was set to shoot at 1000 frames per second in 4K but it can shoot faster and deliver 2000 fps at 1080p high definition.

The amazing flexibility of the Shotover F1 and the Phantom Flex camera allowed us to record 4k at 1000 FPS to the built in Cine Mag. It allowed for recording 4k ProRes at 1080 25p on our Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q+ recorder. The RAW files provide optimum quality for grading and the ProRes files allow for instant playback in flight.

Results are superb with rock solid stability, masses of detail and incredible creative potential for a wide range of applications.
